Shipp's Harbour Grill at Sportsman's Marina

Shipps's Harbor Grill. Let's do lunch.....at Shipp's Harbor Grill. Ever since long time local
favorite Bayside Grill closed, the restaurant at Sportsman's Marina has changed hands
many times. Now the restaurant has opened with chef/owner Matt Shipp at the helm
and, please Lord, may it have found safe harbor. The food is wonderful! After
having lunch with friends at Shipp's Harbor Grill, Tom raved about the filet burger topped with
salsa and blue cheese (the operative word is raved). So, for the birthday boy, off we went to SHG. Great
choice.

Joellyn, already a fan of the coconut grouper, was pleased with the chicken Florentine
that is served with gouda mashed potatoes. Tom, of course, had the blue cheese filet burger
that came with a serving of slaw. Not just any old slaw. Shipp's Harbor slaw is a tasty blend
of flavors with a hint of blue cheese. I ordered a fried shrimp plate. Okay, maybe it looks a little
bland, but believe me, it was fried shrimp done right! The batter was light, not greasy, and
the shrimp were large and flavorful. This is not a restaurant where you would be saying "okay, here's the
batter, I know there is supposed to be a shrimp in here somewhere". And the fries, lightly
salted, were crisp on the outside and tender and moist inside. Chef Shipp has mastered the
art of preparing food with sauces and seasonings that highlight and enhance the dish he is preparing.
From Grouper Pinot Noir to Steak Bayou to Drunk Chocolate Cake, Shipp's Harbor Grill helps
put the "pleasure" in Pleasure Island.

And for dessert, don't forget the Drunk Chocolate Cake. Warm chewy chocolate, carmel,
Kahlua and two scoops of vanilla bean ice cream, a chocolate lover's dream. My picture
isn't pretty because some people (ahem, Tom & Joellyn) couldn't wait to get there spoons
dug in for a taste of heaven. Lunch runs between $7.00 and 12.00 per entree and is worth
every penny and a big tip.

The Shrimp Salad Sandwich was full of big juicy shrimp ! The crispy bacon crumbles on top were a great touch. Who can resist bacon, "The food of the gods" . A side of savory slaw was included. We also enjoyed the yummy flavored butter and hot rolls that the server brought us at first.

This dish of Spinach & Walnut Ravioli
(Spinach, Walnuts, Smoked Gouda Cream) had a bit of a different 'look' about it. I can't say that I found the presentation appetizing but the thick, rich sauce and home made ravioli were divine.
